Welcome to part two of the Vice City
breakdown. In this video, we're going to
go through the remaining screenshots
that Rockstar gave us of Vice City, and
we're going to dive into all of the
relevant details. Now, this video was
split down into two parts, and this
video has a lot more interesting stuff
in it. So, without further ado, let's
get into it. So, the first screenshot
we're going to look at is this, the Vice
City sign. Now, this Vice City sign is
often actually confused to be based on a
Miami sign, which is supposedly at the
end of the runway at Miami International
Airport. However, you may be surprised
to know that this sign doesn't exist.
Loads of movies over the years,
including Bad Boys and Transporter, have
had this sign at Miami airport, and it's
actually become such a common reference
to Miami now that other movies, if
they're filming a shot of a plane coming
into Miami, they'll use this set. A
production company actually rents this
set out. It's not a real part of Miami
and it doesn't really exist, but
obviously Rockstar are doing the same
thing for the game and I think it's
really cool. Obviously, as well, this is
a bit of a throwback to Vinewood in GTA
5. Now, this shot actually doesn't have
too much detail for us to look at.
However, I will say that because it's a
sunset shot or a sunrise shot, can't
really tell which way this is facing.
You can actually see light from the sun
on the underside of the cloud. This is a
really nice piece of attention to
detail. It makes the shot look far more
believable. But that combined with the
volutric clouds, it really ties the
whole image in together. Now, the jet in
this shot is basically just a higher
resolution of the jet that we had in GTA
5. There isn't anything overly unique
about the shot, unless I'm missing
something. Another little note is the
actual texture and detail in the Vice
City sign. Once again, we're just
dealing with higher resolution textures,
and yeah, it looks really nice. Now,
let's move on to the next image. Now, we
have this shot, which is funny because
it's iconic for so many reasons.
Obviously, it is the Ocean View Hotel.
And if you don't know what the Ocean
View Hotel is, please go back 20 years,
play Vice City, because it is a key
iconic core memory for a lot of people,
myself included. For me, Vice City was
the first Grand Theft Auto I got my
teeth stuck into. I was very young at
the time, but I love it. So, we got some
things to pick apart. So, let's start
with the left side of the image. Now,
I've seen some people try and theorize
what this car is over here, like on the
left. And a lot of people kind of aren't
seeing it, but I'll try and elaborate.
This silver bit is one vehicle with a
spoiler on the back, and that's a
reflector on the rear. And it's also got
a bit of a dent in it as well. Another
piece of detail. And that's the exhaust.
The red vehicle behind it is a different
vehicle. The red vehicle behind it is an
entirely separate vehicle. So, yeah, a
lot of people trying to figure out what
vehicle that is, thinking that's one.
It's not. Next we have this police
officer. We can see that like headlights
from a vehicle coming from the other way
are reflecting off their feet. The
detail once again we have the US
government plate. We have Vice Beach
police. We also can see that the officer
is a veiny guy but he's telling people
to get off the car. He's pointing at the
ground and he also has a gun, torch,
handcuffs um and is kind of grabbing his
waist a little bit. This once again
shows that Rockstar have really mo
capped pretty much every scenario. Um, I
just I know obviously the girls are the
focus of the shop, but Ocean View Hotel,
man, it looks beautiful. And from here,
quite close up, it does look like this
has a full interior, and it doesn't like
this is parallaxed. Um, to be honest, if
Rockstar didn't give the Ocean View
Hotel an interior that would be
unforgivable. That would be a crime in
my opinion, considering how iconic of a
location it is. In the background, we
can see some people. And let's talk
about the focus of the shot. So firstly,
the police car itself is wet and it's,
you know, you can see water running down
it, which is just incredible detail.
This this could be a photo of a real
car. We can see that this person's
taking a selfie. You can actually see
they've got like a front flash on their
phone or they're live streaming, but the
light from their phone is actually
glaring on them, which is once again, I
know I keep saying it, there's no other
words for this other than realism. Then
you can see that this person's being
handcuffed and then this other person's
being handcuffed and they're not too
phased about it. From here, it kind of
looks like that maybe they have a
piercing or something. It's hard to see.
I'm not sure if you guys can see, but
there's kind of like something on the
tip of their tongue. I don't know. It
looks like they have a piercing or
something. Um, we can even see in the
mirror that there's actually reflections
in the mirror. So, ray tracing is doing
wonders. We can also get our first
proper look at a taxi. Um, yeah, not
much to say there other than it's a taxi
and it's got an advertisement on the
side of it. Police officer also has a
walkie-talkie and you kind of little
pocket pouches and he's got handcuffs
here. So, he's handcuffed one person.
He's handcuffed another person and he's
maybe he hasn't handcuffed them yet. How
many handcuffs these guys have on them?
H I don't know. Uh because the police
officers are cool. They're wearing
sunglasses at night. Fair enough. If I
if I worked for the uh Vice City Police,
I'd be wearing glasses all the time. In
the background, we have more buildings
that look like they have interiors. Uh I
mean, I'm not sure. Would you guys say
that looks like an interior or would
that look like a kind of a curtain or a
blind to you? I'd say that looks like an
interior. And the same goes for these
buildings here in the background. Now,
something else that I want to talk
about, which is just really nerdy.
Please don't judge me. See the blue and
the green here? That's a kind of
anamorphic lens flare. So it's you'll
see here that you'll have the blue
lights from the police car. You'll have
the like kind of blue strip going up
here, blue going across there. It is an
anamorphic lens flare which shows that
Rockstar are kind of like whether it's
cut scene or not or whether this is just
an in-game screenshot. They're paying
attention to actual film styles. And
this is something that's apparent
throughout the whole trailer. Even
though some of the trailer was gameplay,
and I did a full video about that,
Rockstar are clearly paying attention to
the aesthetic qualities of it because
they want it to feel like you're playing
in a movie. They want you to feel like
you're the main character in a movie.
Then up here we have a flag which is
red, white, and red with a little symbol
in the middle. Now to me, I can't really
make out what flag that is. It looks the
closest flag that I can see that it
looks like is the Peruvian flag. Um, I
don't know. You guys let me know. We can
also see that some of the characters
obviously they're wearing kind of like
flip-flops, but some of them are also
barefoot. And once again, it's just the
the variety of NPCs and their clothing
and and everything. It's just so beyond
and above anything we've seen before.
Even like this person here looking back
at the police officer and kind of like
pouting. Like there's just a lot of
variation going on. It's just really
impressive. Now, moving on to this shot.
There's so much to pick apart in this
one. And I actually really love this for
a number of details which we'll get
into. So, first things first, we are
going to move to this person on the
left. often as you can see that they
appear to have lost their top on the
beach. Um, sometimes that does happen,
but they're drinking a drink and also
they have sand stuck to them and the
sand is usually stuck where sweat is or
where you'd put sun cream. You know, you
can see that there isn't sand like on
the bottom of the arms. The sand is
where sand would stick, which would be
your back, uh, your lower half, wherever
you've put sun cream, wherever you've
sweated. And also lying on a towel, but
the towel isn't just some JPEG on top of
the sand. The towel is actually, you
know, a bit covered in sand. It's kind
of a bit lost in the in the ether.
Really good piece of attention to
detail. And we can see sand sticking to
everyone and even sand getting kicked up
into the air. It's just so good. And
even sand on people's knees. This detail
is just oh my god. You guys are going to
hate me for saying this, but it's real.
It's realism. Now, moving up a little
bit to the left, we have a couple here
walking together. And this is something
that I spoke about in the Port Ghorn
video. Rockstar are really putting
emphasis on groups of people doing stuff
together, people being around each
other, couples, groups of friends.
There's a lot more variation in the
groups of people that stick together.
And we're seeing the same here. We've
got a couple going for a walk on the
beach. And it's just a nice compliment
to the scene. Then in the background
over here, we have people riding bikes
along the beach, which is obviously
something that we had in Grand Theft
Auto 5 as well, or obviously as part of
a mission, but yeah, really nice touch.
Then we got this guy with a metal
detector, which once again is just a
really cool random thing that an NPC
would be doing on the beach. So, once
again, this adds more variation to the
scene. It would be cool if we can get a
metal detector and do it, but we'll see.
But also, as well, we can see that some
people are tanned, some people are
burnt. This guy's very burnt. He needs
to invest in better sun cream. He's got
his glasses. He's got his headphones,
which are either headphones for music or
headphones for for his metal detector.
Now, looking at the underside of the uh
lifeguard kind of beach hut thing, we
can see that there's a bit of corrosion
underneath all the metal work. This is
just more attention to detail when it
comes to metallics and how they behave
in salt water and in the ocean and seab
breeze. Then we have some seagulls and a
towel here. Um the fact the seagulls are
all over the place, which kind of would
be expected considering that we are
obviously by the sea. Captain Obvious
once again striking hard. We also have
these kind of flaps for the lifeguard
thing where obviously they close these
flaps in the evening and in the day
they'll have a cooler with their drinks
and some ice packs and stuff. And then
in the background they've got some kind
of um oxygen tanks. Uh I think they're
oxygen tanks. If anyone here's a
lifeguard, please let me know. They look
like oxygen tanks or bottles of water or
something in the background. Then we
have this person up here looking for
their binoculars, making sure that no
one's uh drifted off out to sea or
drowning or anything like that. Moving
down a little bit, got a person going
for a rune. And you can tell that, you
know, when people are running, they're
kicking up more sand. Um, and when
people are walking, they're only, you
know, lifting up sand rather than
kicking it outwards like this person is.
Then we've got this ATV quad bike thing.
Then we've got ocean. We've got rescue.
So, we got ocean rescue. Got big
headlights on the front. We've got like
a little float on the uh front there.
And on the back we have probably just a
box of medical supplies or or something
like that or maybe float rings or
something. Um, this actually looks
really cool. It's a proper little kind
of farm style quad. Looks really nice.
And also has like the daytime running
lights and stuff. Big fan of that. You
got this dude in the background which is
jacked. He looks a bit like Jason maybe.
I don't know. And looking at these
characters here, you see the sunburn,
the sweat, the detail in the skin. It's
just absolutely incredible. This dude's
doing a bit of a good old perving. Uh,
you know, fair fair enough. You know who
who are we to judge? I'm going to judge
it, though. Then we've got this person
here. Once again, you're seeing all the
imperfections in their skin, just
looking once again realistic. We got a
person over here taking a selfie or
facetiming someone or on a call. Um,
probably taking a selfie, big smile
going on. Then we got something that we
touched on a little bit in the first
trailer. So, in the first trailer, we
can actually see someone throwing a beer
to someone else like a can or something.
And here we got uh this guy over here
throwing a American football. I will
fight this. That is an American
football, not a football, but throwing
it in the air for someone to do a catch.
Um, really nice. And once again, the the
movement looks realistic. It's really
good stuff. And in the background, let's
go over to the background here. See a
guy nodding off for his sleep on a beach
chair. We got someone next to them just
reading something, reading maybe a menu
or something like that. And over here,
we have people in the background just
sunbathing, chilling. And it's just
there's so much like life in this shot.
There's so much going on. There's so
much to look at. There's so much kind of
immersion for one scene. Like, if you
imagine when we're actually playing this
game, how many things are going to be
happening simultaneously around us, it
is genuinely hard to take in and
comprehend. Like, when we're when we get
to the point of playing the game, of
course, I'll go through and, you know,
I'll make a whole video, which will
probably be like maybe a year after
release, which is every single piece of
attention to detail that makes the game
feel realistic. Um, but that video might
be 24 hours long. Now, let's move on to
the next shot. Now, in this shot here,
some people have said that it might be
the characters from the first trailer,
and it very well could be. During
development, Rockstar change a lot of
things, a lot of things repeatedly
throughout. Now, this looks like it
could be the Windwood area of the map.
And the only reason I say that is
because we keep seeing the Ace of Spades
card in the background. Um, we've seen
this in that first shot. In fact, if we
go back to the first shot now, if we go
over here, we keep seeing the ace of
spades coming up there. And of course,
it comes up again in this shot. Now, the
detail on this watch is absolutely
insane. And this is something else that
a few people have pointed out. The
watches in this game, like all of the
jewelry and stuff is very similar to
real stuff in real life. And it's
showing that Rockstar have really taken
an interest in fashion and what people
wear, what people wear in the area. Um,
and what really applies to kind of like
modern kind of pop culture when it comes
to designer gear and accessories. Same
goes for the grills. The grills just
look so realistic. Even his gums just
look realistic. The way the the grills
don't kind of merge into it is nice. And
then same once again, you can see here
in the eye, you know, where you've got
that kind of like red bit on the inside
of your eye. Don't know what that's
called. the hair. I mean, Rockstar's
hair physics have gone leaps and bounds
above anything we've seen before from
any game's developer. Um, and same like
scars and stuff. Now, I'm just looking
at the reflection here, trying to see
what we can see. I'm trying to see what
angle the reflections coming up at. So,
we can see the clouds in the reflection.
It kind of looks like the maps
disappeared a little bit. Maybe they've
turned off the rest of the map to
capture these shots. I don't know. Or
maybe they are stood by the beach. I
don't know. You guys let me know what
you think. Now, something else is that
underarm hair. Like, it's just, you
know, I've said it before and I'll say
it again. These look like photos. They
look like photos of real people in real
life. In the background, we've got a
picture of someone on like a wall. This
guy kind of looks a bit like Bob Marley.
Probably such a white boy thing to say,
but yeah. Right now, we're going to move
on to this shot. Now, this shot has so
much going on in it and it's stuff that
a lot of us have been really excited for
and myself especially. So, so we're just
going to kind of start off from the
bottom left and same before work our way
through. So, in the bottom left we can
see that people are playing basketball.
This looks a bit like Cal um who we've
seen from Rockstar information that
they've given us. It looks a lot like
Cal and it kind of looks like maybe that
could be Jason. It just looks a bit like
Jason is there. Looks a bit like Cal.
You tell me what you think. I'm not
sure. We can see that they got like two
drinks, one's fallen over. They're
playing basketball. Now, 3v3 basketball
is something that was rumored to be in
Grand Theft Auto 6. And then we heard
some information that potentially it had
been removed. Um, obviously this
Rockstar wouldn't include this in their
artwork if they had removed it,
especially with Vice City having their
own basketball team. It looks like this
is in the game to stay. We can also see
like leaves and stuff down here, just
more detail. But yeah, it looks like
we're going to be able to play 3v3
basketball online with the boys, which
I'm really looking forward to. Man,
imagine doing a podcast where it's like
we're just all playing basketball.
That'd be sick. Right, there's so many
cars here to go through that I'm going
to leave just all of the details about
the cars for the separate cars video,
which don't worry is coming. That might
take me like a week to make though. Um,
so you'll have to be a bit more patient
for that one, but it will come.
Actually, thinking about it, maybe this
is Lucia there. Lucia on her phone
leaning over the balcony. Cal Jason
maybe. I don't know. You guys let me
know what you think. That I mean the
hair there looks very Lucia. Um yeah. I
don't know. You guys let me know what
you think. I think that might be Lucia.
Once again we have so many different
cars and vehicles. Separate video for
that. Some obviously taken from uh GTA
5. It is worth saying though a lot of
these vehicles that are in here that are
from GTA V may be changed for GTA 6. Um
you know we saw this in the GTA V
artwork and trailers. Vehicles change,
stuff changes. Now over here, we've got
these bicycles that like the ones that
you rent to go around cities. They're
just rent bicycles. I think it's fair to
say that we'll probably be able to use
them, maybe get charged a couple of
dollars to use them. Really cool. Really
nice touch, and it definitely makes this
feel like more of a metropolis. Now,
moving over to the right, we have this
modified car here, which looks like a
Sultan RS, which is kind of like a
hybrid between a Mitsubishi Evo and a
Subaru and Prza WRX STI. And we got this
guy doing a LEGO. And uh this by the
way, this guy in the white tank top, I
think that's a reference to CJ. So in
the GTA 5 trailer all those years ago,
there was a guy running in a white tank
top away from the police. And um
everyone thought CJ was making a return
to GTA 5. And I think Rockstar probably
playing on it with this shot here. Now
we've got a guy over here kneeling down
at the side of the road surrendering
with his hands up. And this is something
else as well. been able to properly
surrender to the police similar sort of
way that we could in Red Dead Redemption
2. Um, yeah, I think that's probably
something that Rockstar will introduce
to make the police system feel a lot
more realistic. Over here, we have a van
that says Vice City and then something
that we can't really read. It might be
like a custom shop or it might be, I
don't know, there seems to be like sort
of a two-tone color scheme going on with
Vice City written on the side of it.
Now, looking up here, we can see that
where wind is blowing over the water, we
don't get ray tracing. we just get kind
of a diffused light because that's
exactly what it will look like in real
life. But round the corner a little bit
in this little kind of slipway around
here. See how the water goes around from
here round to here and you got these
kind of like little float things here
where water is still. We get proper ray
trace reflections cuz the water's
calmer. It's just so much attention to
detail. Now over here we have people
chilling by the pool. Someone's over
here on their phone. Someone's laying
down chilling. Um, over here we have a
guy sat down maybe eating his lunch or
fishing or something. Now, this is
obviously a hotel, hotel. Um, and it
looks like we have proper balconies
here. Hard to say whether we have
interiors or not. All of these curtains
and blinds are shut. We have an
inflatable flamingo in the pool and some
really nice steps. I mean, even from
this distance, you can see as the water
gets shallower towards the top of the
steps, it's lighter. This is one of the
benefits of global illumination.
Realistic lighting and lighting effects
on objects is, you know, it's not
something that you have to program for
everything individually. With global
illumination, objects emit, project, and
react to light in a certain way. And it
helps provide all of these more
realistic looking environments. Now, I
will do a video counting every single
palm tree. I'm joking. Imagine if I did
that. Imagine if I did that. I' I'd get
rented for it. Would be funny, though.
It would be funny. I might do that on a
live stream. I do a 24-hour live stream
counting every single palm tree. Now,
once again, we can't really see any
interiors over here. It could be that
they're just not visitable interiors or
it could just be that, you know, we're
too far away cuz we are, you know, we
are, if I zoom in a little bit, we are
quite far away from those locations.
Now, moving over down here once again,
we have more vehicles. We have this kind
of like water feature thing here. Uh, it
looks like maybe like a little kind of
like um not a pond. Yeah, it's kind of a
pond outside the front of this building.
Now, looking off into the distance over
here, we can see once again we have more
boats. Um, and also these boats are
different. I'm really excited to see how
many different boat models and boat
variations that we actually have in GTA
6. Um, you know, looking across all the
footage, there are some duplications
between different boats and, um, it is
entirely possible that, you know, maybe
they do limit the amount of boats, but
by the looks of things, there's so much
variation. It's it's genuinely quite
incredible. Um, and once again, like
from here, we can see vehicles all the
way off into the distance. You know,
draw distance limitations really don't
seem to affect this. Maybe for spawning
individual NPCs, but for vehicles
themselves, we're getting an insane draw
distance. Now, there's a building over
here, which I can't really make too much
sense of. It's an absolutely huge
building, and my thoughts are that maybe
it's the airport. Maybe. Let me know
what you guys think. I've been trying to
figure it out. I've just paused this and
um I've been trying to figure it out for
5 minutes. I do believe that that could
be the airport. I can't really imagine a
building being that big from this
distance that isn't an airport. Now over
here, it looks like we have some sort of
kind of like apartment building. We have
some like trees and stuff against a big
wall. Um this looks like some mega
penthouse. And of course, we have a big
red helicopter. This looks like maybe
it's the search and rescue team to do
with the lifeguard. You guys let me know
what you think. Of course, more birds.
And once again, zooming into the
distance, we just have this incredible
draw distance of skyscrapers, apartment
buildings. Um, it's something to behold,
isn't it? Rockstar Games. Oh, Rockstar.
Now, that brings us on to this photo.
Now, this photo is probably one of the
more aesthetic shots where we can see
depth of field. Now, if you don't know
what depth of field is, it basically
means that you got a focal point, which
is these two people, and you have a nice
blurred background. Now, this looks
really tropical. Now, once again, we
have just the absolute volume of palm
trees here, like this amount of like
trees and foliage and stuff. If we had
this in Grand Theft Auto 5, it would
look like a completely different game in
itself, you know, this density. And we
saw actually from early development
footage of GTA 5, they originally had
planned to have more trees. It's just
the PS3 couldn't hack it, but this here
just looks incredible. We can see this
guy wearing, you know, sunglasses. It's
quite a young guy with an older woman,
you know, um, toy
boy. But you can see in her back, you
can see like all the imperfections in
her skin, the wrinkles on her arm. You
can see the wrinkles as well. And she's
clearly out having either a morning or
evening cup of tea. I can imagine this
is in the morning cuz sun rises in the
east and sets in the west. And this is
east. So, depends how realistic Rockstar
going with that. Maybe Rockstar might
choose to have the sunset set over um
the beach. Maybe that might be something
that Rockstar does. Down here we have a
big golden
duck. I love that. NPCs everywhere. Got
these really luxury kind of like big sun
lounges. It's very obvious that this is
like a very luxurious hotel or apartment
building. Um in the background over
here, the detail in here is nuts. In the
background over here, we've got a pickup
truck. We got a guy riding a bike across
the beach. I'm no expert, but isn't it
like really difficult to ride a bike on
sand? I don't know. Maybe that isn't
sand. Maybe that's like cobbles or
something. Actually, that would be
cobbles cuz uh got big bins on it and
stuff. We got these like rubber rings
down here, little floats for the pool.
The underwater lighting in the pool
looks epic. Um you got people swimming
and like sitting on the edge of the pool
and this guy's like at the edge of the
pool leaning. We got a beach ball in
there. And we also have things like
branches that have fallen down and
fallen onto the roof of these kind of
like canopy areas. You got little tables
in here as well, little lights on the
table. It's just such a beautiful shot.
Rockstar have absolutely smashed this
out of the park. And in the background
as well, we can see people, you know,
setting up for the beach for the day.
Um, see all of these umbrellas. They've
actually changed. Oh, no. We still have
the blue umbrellas over here. We have
red umbrellas here. And this is
something that you see in Miami. And in
fact, most beaches around the world, you
know, one set of hotel will have their
section of the beach, which will be
signified by, you know, one color of
umbrellas and another section will have
a different color of umbrellas. And we
got a lovely boat over here. Zoom in.
Boat over here. We have a boat just
disappearing off into the haze. So, that
summarizes my wrap-up of the Vice City
photos. Now, there will be hundreds of
things that I've missed here. Um,
there's just so many things that are
impossible to take in. Let me know what
they are down in the comments because at
the very end of the series, I will go
back through and point out all the
things that I missed. Also, if you don't
want to watch all of these videos
individually, eventually, give me a
couple of weeks, I'll be posting maybe a
couple hour long super cut of all of
these breakdowns. But for now, we still
have many locations to go through. So,
if you did enjoy, please make sure to
like and subscribe, and I'll see you all
in the next one. Hey, new beginnings on
