Rockstar ACTUALLY Just Did This! (-J4FmVKzlI4)

nope so a few people have been asking me
to cover the GTA vice city mod that puts
GTA Vice City remastered inside GTA 4’s
game engine and I didn’t talk about it
originally because bringing attention to
it would just mean that when take two
eventually take it down it would of
course be YouTubers fault rather than
the hundreds of unlicensed songs and
Assets in the game being the reason that
take two actually removed it but we’ll
talk about that later but to get you up
to speed this was a mod that put GTA
Vice City in the game engine of GTA 4
and it was supposed to be launching on
the 25th of January and of course it
didn’t happen now whilst I think it’s
really cool and it’s incredible that the
team and the community have come
together to do this it is also
intellectual property theft no matter
how you look at it and I don’t just mean
these assets were stolen from rockstar I
mean from every artist or musician that
has music in Vice City from every third
party asset that was used in Vice City
and was licensed by Rockstar I think
what confuses me more than anything is
why do people keep making these projects
monetizing these projects and they’re
not understanding when these projects
are taken down by companies like Take 2
I personally don’t believe that this is
a conspiracy from Rockstar and take 2 to
stop all the fun it’s just protecting
their Assets Now with the Liberty City
preservation project that was taken down
around a week ago that was actually
different Rockstar hadn’t remastered GTA
4 so from the the very little
information we have it actually looks
like Rockstar contacted the makers of
the project not take to interactive and
Rockstar potentially had some sort of
conversation with them that could be
productive and maybe even beneficial for
the community maybe even an official GTA
4 remaster release the developers of the
Liberty City preservation project didn’t
seem too worried so I guess we’ll have
to wait and see what happens with that
but with this Vice City remastered
project there was a number of huge
hurdles for Rockstar and take two
firstly a remaster already existed
albeit it’s not perfect but it does
exist secondly we have this development
team that actually worked on this new
vce city project but they’re based in
Russia from what I can tell which would
immediately make it impossible for
Rockstar to collaborate with them even
if they wanted to due to current
sanctions in place but also the project
was being directly monetized so not only
do we have the obvious licensing issues
but we also have a viable case for
losses to Rockstar and take two as a
result of this I think having the
project being taken down is the least of
the worries that we need to consider in
the context of this as it could get a
lot worse now I don’t think that we can
confidently talk about the ethics of
whether this project was okay or not and
I know it’s the corol trend to hate on
Rockstar for reasons that we made up in
our own heads but to bring it back to
basics if you made a game and spent
money on it and someone ripped all your
assets and redistributed it at a
fraction of the cost you’d also want it
to be closed down too just because
Rockstar is a big developer doesn’t
really change the scenario in any way
now I originally didn’t plan on covering
this topic as when Rockstar took down
the Liberty preservation project I
received a lot of blame for talking
about it apart from I never spoke about
it in fact my first video on it was
about 5 hours after it was shut down so
I feel we have to be a bit careful and
mindful when talking about stuff like
this I feel like a lot of the community
felt like some bigger YouTubers talking
about this is the reason it was taken
down and no this project was probably on
Rockstar’s radar way before any
YouTubers got a hold of it the problem
is is Rockstar wouldn’t have been able
to issue a cease anded assist or reach
out to any developers before actually
seeing what the project was they can’t
just see that the name Vice City was
being used and issue a ceas and assist
on the whole Project based on that
there’s a difference between a
copyrighted logo being used and the
whole game being a direct rip and the
way that Rockstar choose to proceed was
probably decided in the days after that
Liberty City preservation project was
released so I don’t think it’s any
YouTuber’s fault that it’s happened I
think it’s just a case of it bigger
businesses a couple of days to figure
out exactly what they’re objecting
against but yeah it would be really
interesting to know what you guys think
about this do you think that Rockstar
should allow people to use their Assets
in games for free or do you think this
takedown was justified let me know in
the comments down below thank you so
