have you ever wondered what’s going to
happen to GTA online once Grand Theft
Auto 6 arrives I know I’ve thought about
that and take tuner active CEO and
chairman stra zelnick has also thought
about it because he finally gives us his
answer on really what’s going to happen
and it is a very interesting question
because there’s a lot of things at play
here number one the success and
popularity of Grand Theft Auto online
continues to grow even a decade after
the game has been released we’re still
getting updates thousand thousands of
people are joining every single day it
still has hundreds of thousands of
people that are playing fans are devoted
to their characters they’ve spent
millions of dollars on in-game cash they
have all these crazy cars properties and
more and because of that Grand Theft
Auto online has been a huge success for
not only Rockstar but take to
interactive their parent company with
the addition of microtransactions Shark
cards things you can buy Etc and so I
think it’s obvious at this point we know
Grand Theft Auto 6 is going to have some
sort of multiplayer version we don’t
know what they’re going to call it Vice
City online GTA online 2.0 Grand Theft
Auto 6 multiplayer we don’t know what
it’s going to be but it’s going to be
something and again it begs the question
what’s going to happen to our GTA online
characters what’s going to happen to
Grand Theft Auto online once GTA 6 and
its multiplayer gets here well take to
CEO stra zelck actually spoke to IGN a
couple of days ago and answered that
exact question the title of the article
take you boss says it’s shown a
willingness to support Legacy titles
amids questions about the future of GTA
online post GTA 6 this is what the
article goes on to say what happens to
GTA online when GTA 6 comes out that’s a
question a lot of GTA online players
have been asking ever since GTA 6 was
announced and now as GTA 6 is fall 2025
release date approaches they’re no
closer to An Answer GTA online is
Rockstar’s hugely profitable live
service that continues to pull in
players even out well over a decade
since launch its enduring appeal and
ability to print money is thought to
have influen Rockstar’s decision to
prioritize the live service over story
DLC for GTA 5 much to the annoyance of
some fans but there is more pressure
concern looming Over the Horizon when
GTA 6 eventually comes out it is
expected to bring with it a new and
improved GTA online perhaps this will be
GTA online too perhaps it’ll be called
GTA online as before either way players
of the existing GTA online have
expressed concern that all their time
effort and money spent in the current
GTA online will be left behind for a
potential clean break later this year so
why invest time and money into GTA
online now in early 2025 when the new
GTA online is potentially due out
perhaps in eight months or so that’s a
question IGN put to take to boss Strauss
zelick during a recent interview ahead
of the company’s third quarter financial
report and his answer makes for an
interesting reading while zelnick
wouldn’t be drawn specifically on any
new GTA online because it hasn’t been
announced yet he did talk generally
about take 2’s form when it came to NBA
2K online online a free-to-play online
focused version of 2K sports hugely
successful basketball franchise aimed at
the Asian market NBA 2K online launched
all the way back in 2012 and then 2K
sports released NBA 2K online 2o in 2017
both games were maintained
simultaneously so fans of the first
version could continue to play and
invest their time and money safe knowing
they wouldn’t be left behind so this is
what he says I’m going to speak
theoretically only because I’m not going
to talk about a particular project when
the announcement hasn’t been made but
generally speaking we support our
properties when the consumers are
involved in those titles as an example
we launched NBA 2K online in China I
think originally in 2012 if I’m not
mistaken and then we launched NBA 2K
online 2 in China in 2017 if I’m not
mistaken we did not Sunset online one
they are both still in the market and
they serve consumers and they’re alive
and we have this massive audience so
we’ve shown a willingness to support
Legacy titles when a community wants to
be engaged with them so it’s that last
line right there that’s incredibly
important because it suggest although it
doesn’t confirm because we don’t know
anything about GTA online 2.0 yet but if
there is a GTA online too it’s not going
to come at the cost of GTA online
falling Wayside if people are still
playing it then zelnick suggests
Rockstar will continue to support it and
that makes sense because I guarantee you
that even after GTA 6 arrives I believe
there’s still going to be a chunk of
Gamers out there that play GTA 5 and the
original Grand Theft Auto online whether
they don’t have the means or don’t want
to move on to the next system as you
guys know GTA 6 is only going to be
available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox
series X or S so if you’re still playing
the game on an Xbox One or PlayStation 4
or even if you have a kickass PC that
has you know all the bells and whistles
you’re still not going to be able to
play GTA 6 when it first comes out so
you might still have a need and a want
to play the original Grand Theft Auto
online now if Rockstar decides to do
that I can only imagine that they’re
just not going to provide the same level
of updates for it I just don’t think
they’re going to take it offline I don’t
think there’s going to be this you know
date in the sand where Rockstar says
this is the final hour the final chance
to play your character like they did on
the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 for
probably server issues I just don’t
think there’s going to be any updat so
if you have your character and you have
all your cars and your toys and whatnot
you can still buy stuff if you want I
just don’t think new things will be
added now at the same rate I think that
means that they will probably be
separate entities I don’t think what you
do in Los Santos is going to carry over
to what you do in Vice City to me that
just wouldn’t be fun and it also
wouldn’t support Rockstar wanting to
make money on that title cuz many people
right now have millions of billions of
dollars and if you just start with that
in the new GTA online no one’s going to
buy Shark cards or whatever there’s
going to be called or microtransactions
and Rockstar and take two certainly
don’t want that now while you might be
able to carry some things over or you
might be rewarded for all your time
spent in the original GTA online again I
still believe you’re going to start kind
of at the scratch level and going to
have to build your way all the way back
up to the top just like what we did here
but I do still think it’s going to exist
in some way shape or form and maybe down
the road as Rockstar gets Grand Theft
Auto 6’s multiplayer up and running
there’ll be some sort of collaboration
between the two maybe you’ll be able to
go from Vice City to Los Santos or Los
Santos to Vice City back and forth I
don’t know how it’s going to work but it
certainly seems like you’re not just
going to be completely abandoned which
is good news because players have been
playing this game for over a decade now
not only have they become attached to
the things that they’ve accomplished in
game whether it be saving the world from
Heist and all the buildings and
businesses they have all the cars
they’ve collected but they just get
attached to their character as well and
you don’t want to see that just
completely wiped off of the face of the
map so as long as it’s easy for Rockstar
to support I really see no reason why
they kind of can’t keep GTA online up
and running I do think at the end of the
day again they’re going to be separate
just because GTA 6 is going to have so
many things different from GTA online I
mean it’s going to be built on an
entirely different engine it’s going to
have new cars it’s going to have new
clothing it’s going to have new features
is going to have new everything and it
might not be compatible with the old GTA
online but again old GTA online can
still exist at least in some capacity
now that’s not to say GTA online will be
supported forever there might be some
sort of grace period in fact Rockstar
Games might let us know of that grace
period kind of like what they did when
GTA 5 moved from the PS3 to the PS4 Xbox
360 to Xbox One they said hey you know
in the summer this is going to be the
last update so if you want to keep
playing online with the latest updates
you have to move to the latest console
and they might do the same thing with
GTA online hey you know we’re going to
give you 6 months to a year in order to
move over and if you don’t you’re not
going to be able to play your old
characters I don’t know I don’t know
what direction Rockstar is going to take
here I feel like the easiest thing would
just be to keep it up and running so
that at any time if you wanted to feel
nostalgic you could go back you could
play it and obviously it’s worth noting
there’s still a huge amount we don’t
know about GTA 6 given all we know so
far is a relative release window and the
first trailer there’s been no mention of
multiplayer but it’s obvious it’s going
to happen but let me know what you guys

of hybrid where they give you a certain
