So, Mind’s Eye has leaked. And if you
don’t know what Mind’s Eye is, it’s a
game from Builder Rocket Boy, headed up
by Leslie Benzes, who is best known for
being one of the directors on Grand
Theft Auto and pretty much being third
in command of the whole of Rockstar and
the head of Rockstar North. Now, Minds
Eight is a game in which we’ve been
dripfed information over the past couple
of months. And to be honest, the
marketing cycle for them has been
relatively slow. I’m personally part of
their creator program and to be honest,
they have left the marketing relatively
late when it comes to the release of the
game. However, with Grand Theft Auto 6
now being delayed, this game is
definitely something that we should be
getting excited for. Now, looking at all
of the trailers, a lot of people had the
same question. What does the gameplay
look like? The gameplay is something
that really tells us of how good a game
is going to be, cuz cinematic trailers
can be very, very, very deceiving, as we
saw with all of those Paradise trailers.
So when this Mind’s Eye gameplay leaked,
all of us were really genuinely excited.
Now firstly, let’s just talk about how
it leaked. So supposedly a YouTuber who
was sent the footage from Mind’s Eye
showed it during a live stream and he
wasn’t supposed to have shown it. Well,
I find this particularly quite
interesting for a number of key reasons.
We don’t just have the live stream
footage. We actually have the raw video
clips as well. They surfaced online as
well. I am not here throwing accusations
at Minds Eye, but it does look like they
leaked their own game. And also, I did
reach out to the team at Builder Rocket
Boy just to ask if I could post a video
about these leaks, and they seemed okay
with it. So, I’m not going to be getting
a copyright claim from this video. Now,
this could either mean that they were
responsible for it getting leaked or
alternatively, which to be honest, this
could be more likely, it leaked, people
actually really like the look of it, and
they thought, you know what, it’s
marketing. Let it do the rounds. Now, in
terms of how people have got hold of
this footage, Minds Eye are currently
doing their marketing cycle. So, there’s
a few kind of like calls and conferences
taking place over the coming weeks, and
you’ll be seeing some content from me
talking about some more specifics when
it comes to the game. But, let’s just go
through the leaked footage and talk
about what we can see. So, firstly,
let’s just go over the two things that
look a little bit not concerning, but
things that aren’t as favorable. It
clearly screams Unreal Engine stock in
some areas just from the car physics
seem a little bit stock and the running
animations and like the general
mechanics of like gameplay in general
seem a bit Unreal Engine. But that’s
where the kind of negatives stop.
Everything else is absolutely
exceptional. The first thing I want to
say is the aesthetics of like the
explosions and stuff. It looks
incredible. I know that they did that
trailer that was pretty much all
explosions, and to be honest, I get why
because they look genuinely really
impressive. Maybe they went a bit
overboard, but it is what it is. But
aesthetically, the explosions and some
of the gunplay stuff looks really
impressive. Now, we do need to talk
about the weapon wheel, and it’s very
obvious where the idea for the weapon
wheel came from. Obviously, this is very
Grand Theft Auto, but it’s not
infringing on any of Rockstar’s
intellectual property. It’s just a
really good way of doing a weapon wheel
and loads of games have done something
relatively similar. Mafia did the same
thing for Mafia 3. So, this isn’t
anything that we need to write home
about. To be honest, this weapon wheel,
the format works and it’s really good
and we all love it. So, I’m really happy
about that. Now, the next thing I want
to briefly touch on is the sound design.
So, sound design in games is something
that so easy to mess up. And I’m just
going to play you some of the clips now
so you can hear what everything sounds
like. But the vehicle sounds and the gun
sounds do sound absolutely incredible.
Then it’s just the grown-ups left. I do
need to tell you, Jacob, you’re not
going to catch
me. What you did back there may have
exceeded expectations and other people.
You made it personal.
What? Like you’re not on social media.
You really don’t get it, do you? No. You
need to take a look inside yourself,
Diaz. You’re fighting against your own.
What does that mean?
Gary, come on. Now, something that has
caused a bit of a stir in the community
is we’ve always been under the
impression that this game is not open
world. Minds Eye themselves have
confirmed it’s not an openw world game.
And based on a couple of interviews that
have been out there with various
magazines, articles and stuff, we’ve
always had the impression that this
would be like Detroit: Become Human
where it’s a linear game or even things
like The Last of Us where we follow a
linear story over time. But it was
always a bit vague about how not open
world it is. And this leaked footage
kind of confirms to us. When it comes to
open world and linear stories, there is
actually a gray area in between. So, we
can see from this driving footage that
it may not be we can explore the whole
map, but it may be that a certain part
of the map is closed off for a set of
missions. So, we can go around to
various people and do various missions
within like a closed part of the map and
then we’ll be of course transported to
different locations for various parts of
the story. That isn’t 100% confirmed,
but that’s what I’m taking away from
looking at this leaked footage. Now,
some of the little details to point out
is things like the hood or the bonnet if
you’re from the UK of the car. The way
it flips up is so Grand Theft Auto and I
absolutely love it. The way that the
vehicles appear to handle and move look
like a slightly more advanced version of
what we had in Grand Theft Auto 5. So,
you can definitely see the lineage and
evolution of those sorts of ideas,
concepts, and systems. It’s very obvious
that this game is being placed in the
market in a really healthy position.
This gameplay footage does look really
exciting. And me just personally
speaking, I’m really excited to go and
try this out and get stuck in and enjoy
the game. We’re at a period of time now
where we’ve got Mafia the Old Country
coming out, which really kind of
scratches that itch for Mafia fans, but
also maybe even Red Dead Redemption 2
fans, where we have that kind of oldie
style gameplay combined with some Grand
Theft Auto style elements. That’s going
to be really exciting. We also have
projects like Helix in the works and
that’s going to be essentially a kind of
5M competitor in a way. It’s there to
replace some of the flaws that exist
within 5M. And we also have Minds Eye.
And what’s brilliant about Minds Eye is
that some of the people working on it
are former Rockstar developers. Of
course, Leslie Benzees is heading the
whole thing up. So, I am hopeful that
this will be, if not 3 years of
entertainment, at least it will be
something to really get us through until
when GTA 6 comes out. And, you know,
hopefully if it all goes really well, it
will take us beyond that point as well.
But I think we should be excited about
Mind’s Eye. I personally really am. And
initially, I wasn’t. My first video
about Mind’s Eye, I was quite critical
of quite a few different things in it.
And the main reason for that is I hadn’t
actually seen any gameplay. And this is
kind of the biggest thing that we’ve
seen from the community. People just
want to see gameplay. People don’t want
to be left waiting around to see
cinematic trailers and contextual
information. Gameplay is what’s really
important. And although this isn’t
necessarily an official release of
gameplay, we’ll probably get some very
soon. And that first gameplay trailer,
of course, was very short. So to now
have this leaked footage, it allows us
to actually really see what we’re going
to be in for. And personally, to me,
that’s very exciting. Now, there will be
more Minds Eye videos coming up and I’m
going to be moving into the new studio,
which I’m currently building within the
next week or two. So, when Minds Eye
comes out in June, I will do a full
playthrough and we’ll probably spend at
least a month or so going through all of
the Minds Eye related stuff in between
GTA videos here and there and stuff like
that. So, yeah, I’m excited to get my
teeth stuck into this. I think, you
know, with the GTA 6 delay, a lot of us
are let down by that, but thinking about
it, there’s some really good looking
games coming out this year. So, let’s
just enjoy what we’re going to be
getting over the next year until we get
