Is This Just Another Paradise? HELIX (oi8thR4Q4GY)

Transcription:

So, many of you may have seen it by now,
but there’s a new game coming out called
Helix. And there’s a lot for us to talk
about. And obviously, there’s the big
question on everyone’s tongue. Is this a
scam? Well, you’ll be pleased to know it
isn’t. And by the way, most of the
footage you’re about to see has not been
seen by the public yet. This is
exclusive stuff that Helix have given me
to show you guys, and this is what I’ve
been looking at for the past four
months. But, let’s just back up a little
bit and explain how I know. So, I’ve
been covering the game Paradise going
back to October. And obviously, I was
one of the first people to call it out
as being a scam, if not the first
person. And it wasn’t too long after
dropping that that Hypersonic
Laboratories actually reached out to me,
and they said that they’re working on a
game called Helix and wanted to know if
I’d be interested in having a chat to
see if there’s any opportunities to
collaborate. Now, initially, I wasn’t
that interested, and I’m sure they’ll
tell you that themselves. I had a
million and1 questions and I wasn’t
really happy to entertain working with
them unless I had answers. And boy, they
delivered. But before we get into those
questions and of course the answers,
what is Helix? Well, Helix is
essentially, if you think of like
Garry’s Mod or Roblox in Unreal Engine.
Now, if you’re old enough to remember
Garry’s Mod, Garry’s Mod was pretty much
the place to be back in the day. It was
essentially custommade servers, so
people could build their own servers and
have their own gameplay. And then
obviously many years later we have
something called 5M. And 5M is
essentially the core of what Helix is.
But and this is a very big butt. The
core problem with 5M is it’s owned by
Rockstar. And Rockstar is owned by Take
2 and Take 2 are quite a latigious
company. This means that the actual
limits and the bounds of what people can
do in 5M is so restricted. So many
people’s servers are getting taken down.
So many people are having their access
restricted to 5M or we’re having the
situation we’re having at the moment
where people are doing modifications in
Grand Theft Auto and they’re getting
taken down. Now, of course, Grand Theft
Auto is great and we all love Grand
Theft Auto. Of course, I’m a massive
fan. I’ve built a career off the back of
it. But there is no getting around the
fact that all of the online based and
userenerated content is going to be run
by the corporate overlords which are
Take to Interactive. Now, the whole idea
of Helix is to actually build a place
where people can create their own
servers, but actually own them. Like,
you own all of your assets and your
intellectual properties, and you won’t
be in a situation where Helix are trying
to claim the rights to your assets or
your server. Now, how does this all
really work? Well, you are able to
actually build out your missions,
worlds, and all of your server based
things using the built-in creator tools.
And there’s actually like a little
marketplace in there as well where you
can use assets that have been paid for
by Helix, but also you can actually
import your own assets as well. Now, if
you decided to import a Ferrari or a
Lamborghini, of course, Ferrari and
Lamborghini can come after you and sue
you if they want to, but it’s your
responsibility. You imported it. It’s
your asset that you imported. Well, not
necessarily your asset, but you get the
idea. The whole idea is that Helix are
providing the platform and developers
apply the content. Now, there is one big
concern a lot of people have, and that’s
that in the trailer, there were vehicles
that looked almost identical to real
life vehicles, such as Porsches,
McLarens, BMWs, and all of that stuff.
And of course, there was the Colaan,
which looks like it was identical from
GTA. Now, with the Colacan, I can’t
address that. Yes, it does look like
it’s from Grand Theft Auto. Nothing I
can do to defend that. That might be
something to do with the fact that a lot
of the people working on this are 5M
developers. However, the vehicles, this
is where a lot of people don’t quite
understand the arguments I made with
Paradise. So, with Paradise on their
website, they put out a statement saying
that they had permission from
Lamborghini to use Lamborghini in their
trailers. And then they then went on to
say that there will not be a single
vehicle in the game that is a model from
a real existing vehicle. And then
obviously in the game there was a
Ferrari and a Lamborghini. With Helix,
all of the vehicles in their trailer,
they’ve made sure to debadge. A lot of
the vehicles have been modified. So
widebody kits, changing front grills,
adding spoilers, and in general just
slightly tweaking the assets a little
bit. So in a court of law, there would
be a case of plausible deniability about
whether it is trying to infringe on
someone’s trademark because the actual
trademark is nowhere to be seen on the
vehicle. So, whilst I do agree that this
has raised some concerns, you do need to
understand that it’s not black and white
and there are ways to get around it. And
this goes into what I was saying about
the responsibility of the assets falls
back onto the person that uploads them
into the game. If you want a more
popular example of this, look at 5M.
Things like no pixel, people just remove
the badges to get around it. Now,
talking about assets, this brings us to
this whole spam load of comments saying
that this is an asset flip. Now, whilst
there are assets in this game that of
course have been licensed, there’s also
so so so many that they’ve made
themselves or have been communitymade.
And actually, I want to use a good
example of this. For example, this is
all development footage that no one’s
seen yet, but this is, for example, a
tank. And the final result of the tank
will be something like this. Now, this
tank that you’re seeing on screen right
now was made and put onto a marketplace.
And rather than Helix just downloading
the vehicle and putting it in their
game, they went and actually hired the
guy that creates the tanks. This is the
difference between Helix and Paradise.
Now, the creator of QB core, which by
the way, QB core is the most popular
framework in 5M. And as you can see on
the screen right now, is used by 25,000
plus RP servers. And the creator of QBC
was actually in the Discord. He’s one of
the team members that are working on
Helix. And his statement is working with
Helix is a total gamecher. For anyone
familiar with 5M development and its
limitations, Unreal Engine 5 combined
with Helix’s tools allows me to push the
boundaries and create whatever I want,
all with stunning graphics and gameplay.
The potential for Helix is enormous, and
I truly believe it will revolutionize
the modding and role playing space.
Then, of course, we have statements from
multiple other people, including Wasabi
Robbie, the founder of Wasabi Scripts.
With Paradise, the more research I did,
the more concerned I got. with Helix,
every single thing I see is a bit more
reassuring. Now, I do need to say that
of course there’s a lot of skepticism
about this and web 3, and you’ll be
pleased to know it’s not web 3, but
we’ll talk about that later. Helix
haven’t just reached out to a load of
YouTubers and asked us to promote them.
Of course, I’ve been talking to them for
about 4 months, but they didn’t really
want conversations to go too far because
their focus is finding people to
actually develop and make stuff for
Helix. And that’s what they’ve been
focusing on for at least a year now. If
in fact, let’s be honest, it’s way
longer than a year. And you can find all
that information online. They’ve had
multiple rounds of investment. And some
of their investors are people like
Samsung Next and Play and plus many
more. And you I’m not going to bore you
with investor related details cuz to be
honest, it’s boring, but you can find
all this information out and it’s all
publicly available. But their core focus
initially was actually just finding
people to actually make some of the
worlds and maps and create like a really
nice starting ground for Helix. And of
course they build some of their own
stuff, but they’ve also partnered with
some really big people out there to
bring you some really cool stuff. In
fact, some of the people that are
actually involved in this project and
some of the people that have made
statements about this project are people
like NK, who was behind the Liberty City
Preservation Project, which of course
had a bit of head-to-head with Rockstar
and Take Two. Then we’ve got Dark Space,
who’s also issued a statement about it
as well. And uh well, he has had a bit
of a head-to-head and a problem with
Take Two. Are you guys seeing patterns
here? cuz uh call me a genius, but I’m
filling in the blanks. Now, there’s a
lot of people that have built stuff for
5M that are going to be also making
stuff for Helix because it’s like
someone’s taking the handcuffs off them.
They can really do whatever they want to
do. Now, Helix isn’t saying it’s going
to compete with GTA 6, and that’s not
their goal. They’re not making bold
claims like they own the rights to all
the vehicles in their game. They’re not
making claims that they’re going to be a
GTA competitor. They’re not making any
of the claims that companies, for
example, like Paradise were making. And
I had a lot of questions for them. And
my first big question was, is crypto
going to be in the game? Now, initially,
and once again, they haven’t tried to
hide this. It’s available online. There
was a plan for web 3 to be integrated
into the game. But they decided as a
business, they’re going to pull away
from that because it’s not really
conducive to the end result they’re
trying to achieve. They are trying to
build something cool, which is a
platform that people will go on to use.
cryptocurrency and crypto integrations
do have a really good place in the
market, but there are all the negative
connotations that come with it and also
with that comes age restrictions and all
of that. Now, of course, it’s free to
play, so they are going to be monetizing
it and that’s just with
microtransactions. You’ll be able to buy
stuff in the game. That’s pretty much
how every game works now. And if it’s a
free-to-play game, that’s fine to be
honest. And I think the implementation
of it all is the important bit. You
know, is it exploitative in the way it
works? Then maybe that could be a
problem. But for the time being, there’s
nothing about that. It’s just there’s
going to be microtransactions. And these
are some of the conversations I’ve had
with some of the team behind this that
it’s not about web 3. They moved away
from their web 3 ideology because of the
connotations about it. And this isn’t a
decision that they made because of
Paradise. This is a decision that they
made prior to Paradise. So yeah, I just
thought I’d get that out there. It’s
something that I find really interesting
and they don’t like this comparison at
all and I understand why. But Paradise
promised a lot of things which of course
it never delivered on. But what Helix is
actually doing is giving us a lot of the
same features that Paradise promised.
Helix aren’t making a big deal out of
it. For example, the really detailed
character customization. They haven’t
made a massive deal about it. Whereas
like Paradise made it a whole PR run and
then didn’t even deliver on it properly.
I just think that their focus and their
core is in the right place. Now, this
brings me on to another topic, which is
the people behind it. Now, with
Paradise, we didn’t know who was
responsible, who was involved. There was
load of shady shell companies, all of
this stuff going on. Whereas with Helix,
the owner literally appeared on camera
and you can find out who their names are
online and it’s all publicly available
and it’s not like they’re trying to
hide. Now, when it comes to online
digital scams, there’s usually a litmus
test, which is if it looks like [ __ ]
smells like [ __ ] and tastes like [ __ ]
it’s probably [ __ ] But in this
instance, there isn’t really anything
that’s given me red flags. The only
reason I have a question mark or a red
flag over this and initially anyway was
because of Paradise. If you remove
Paradise from the equation, there isn’t
really anything here that concerns me.
Now, of course, Hypersonic had an
interest in web 3 and I think in the
future they might introduce a form of
web 3, but not necessarily to Helix.
That will probably be a separate project
and they were working on a separate
project. To be honest, I’m not too sure
on the details whether they’re still
working it or not. I’ll ask them. But
Helix alone as a standalone project
isn’t web 3. And if it does become web 3
in the future, which I really don’t
think it will be based on our
conversations, then of course you just
don’t have to engage with it. So if I
was to describe everything that we’re
seeing with Helix in a nutshell, it’s
essentially, and this is the very
simplified version, is it’s going to be
a loose competitor to 5M with
inspirations from Roblox and Garry’s
Mod. It’s basically everything we love
about the platforms without the
handcuffs that Take 2 give us. So I’m in
their Discord. you can chat to me on
there. Um, this video itself isn’t
sponsored. Obviously, I did a GTA video
which was sponsored by them, but I
wanted to make this video because I’ve
been covering Paradise a lot and it
would be disingenuous as [ __ ] if I
didn’t bother actually talking about
this in detail because it deserves
detail. And also, I’ve been itching to
talk about this cuz I’ve been in the NDA
until the uh embargo was lifted today.
So, there is a lot more stuff coming on
this. There will be more coverage about
it. And of course, when it comes out, I
will be playing it. And there’s actually
some more cool stuff that I can’t talk
about cuz that stuff’s still under NDA.
Helix, release the handcuffs from me.
Please let me talk about this. But yeah,
boys, don’t worry. It is legit. There’s
nothing that’s concerning. And you know
what? If a load of concerning things
happens, I’ll be the first person to be
like, “Wo, hang on a second here.” But
there’s nothing concerning yet. It’s all
good. And I’m really genuinely excited
because when a lot of people saw
Paradise, they thought that Paradise was
tackling some of these issues when
obviously we know that was just four
asset packs. Now, I want to close out
this video with a final statement. There
is every potential and eventuality that
this could end up flopping and not
working. But with Paradise, the stakes
were so much higher for the user. People
were investing into a cryptocurrency.
And towards the end, people were
granting access to a game launcher to
have kernel access to their PC, and
people had to give up a lot before they
got anything back. With Helix, you don’t
have to give up anything. you’re not
having to trade off anything for a
riskreward scenario. And this is why I
think for the time being, at the very
minimum, we should give Helix the
benefit of the doubt and just see what
they come up with. And another thing I
want to very quickly mention is that in
my previous GTA video, of course, it was
sponsored, but it’s not like I got paid
$1,000, multiple thousands of dollars to
say whatever I said about Helix in that
video. They paid me to do a 60-second
integration. I did a 2-minute
integration because I’m excited about
the project and the money to I’m not
allowed to say the exact figure, but it
only equates to a day or two’s worth of
my ad revenue on YouTube. I’m not going
to sacrifice all of my integrity and my
whole career on YouTube and everything
I’ve said for the past year and a half
for the sake of 2 days worth of money. I
personally think it’s really cool that a
company’s come along and tried to do
something in an area where other
companies are failing. And it’s one
thing for me to be a creator talking
about it and to be receiving backlash
for even suggesting that this isn’t a
scam. Although no one can describe how
it’s a scam, but as games developers,
this company has gone through years of
trying to raise investment to work on
this project to then actually put what
they’re proud of out into the world and
then receive a lot of the negativity
they’ve received based on the merits of
what other companies have done in the
past, not on the merits of what Helix
has done. And go and show them some
love, man. Cuz like obviously people are
initially quite concerned because of the
paradise situation, but I know how hard
the team behind this have been working
on this and even some of the people that
are involved with other 5M related
projects are are really proud of some of
the stuff in this. So go and show them
some love because they are now trying to
break through in a market which has been
tainted. So yeah, thanks for watching
and I’ll see you all in the next one.
