a former head of Rockstar Leslie benzes
has just announced the new game that he
is releasing and as always I have some
thoughts so to give you all the context
that you need for the very beginning of
this video Leslie Benes was former the
head of Rockstar North in 2014 he took a
sabatical from the company and he
finally Departed the company officially
in 2016 and if you don’t know too much
about Leslie Benz every single Grand
Theft Auto that you know and love he’s
at the very top of the credit known to
be a brilliant writer and of course a
vision in the gaming space in the past a
lot of the things that we know and love
about the Grand Theft Auto franchise
have been a brainchild of him and there
is a rumor and we’re not sure if this is
true but apparently when he left
Rockstar Games Rockstar told him to go
build a rocket boy and that’s why he’s
named his new games development company
build a rocket boy I’m not able to
verify this but I’ve seen this so many
times that it could be true but Builder
rocket boy have just announced their new
game called minai now the official
statement from them about the context of
the game is that we can play as Jacob
Diaz a former elite soldier fitted with
the Mind’s Eye a mysterious neural
implant that haunts him with fragmented
memories of a covert mission that
changed his life forever fight to
uncover the truth in a world where AI
high-tech experimentation and unchecked
military power shape every encounter
Jacob isn’t the only one searching for
answers forces from the Shadows may be
more powerful and dangerous than he ever
imagined get ready for intense Combat on
foot behind the wheel and in the air
where every decision is a difference
between survival and undefeat now there
are some things that I’m really
impressed with when it comes to the
layout and everything we’ve seen with
this game but there are some concerns I
have as well so without further Ado
let’s just dive straight into it so
firstly we’ll go through the concerns
Builder rocket boy are working on a
wider set of projects they’re working on
everywhere which is more of a platform
the way that we think about Roblox a
place where people can build and have
universes and worlds inside of they’re
also building tools such as Arcadia and
of course they have Mind’s Eye now for
me this raises a few concerns because
I’ve seen this a lot when new Studios go
to release their first game if they try
and work on too many projects at once it
usually comes at the detriment of
something else it’s worth noting that
Builder rocket boy although not exactly
a brand new startup in the sense that
it’s got some big names behind it this
is still for them their first release
and speaking to a lot of people in The
Wider Community the people that have
only heard about this vaguely from the
outside everything they’ve got going on
is a little bit confusing now of course
we can talk about the other tools and
other projects in other videos but I do
think the contextual knowledge that
there’s a lot of things going on in the
background can sometimes be a
contentious thing when it comes to
focusing on a game now another concern I
have is the fact that this game is
futuristic now this is just my opinion
so you can disregard this point if you
want but for me although I thought cyber
Punk was a good game I didn’t really
fall into the game properly I didn’t
really fall in love with it however with
that being said with my general dislike
for futuristic games I also absolutely
love Detroit become human which is a
futuristic game and this isn’t really a
negative point but I think that it’s
really interesting to point out that
although this is somewhat a futuristic
game all the topics that it tackles such
as mind implantation chips and all of
this stuff is stuff that we’re starting
to see tech companies talk about now so
in the same way that Grand Theft Auto is
sort of mimicking or portraying real
life in their games art imitating real
life I have to argue that this is very
similar in that sense they’re clearly
doing a take on a world that we could
One Day end up in so it’s not a negative
but the futuristic stuff does
immediately kind of make me step back a
little bit and be a bit unsure but that
is once again just my opinion but now we
got all that out of the way let’s go to
the stuff that I’m really impressed by
and you’ll be very pleased to know that
this list is a bit longer firstly the
vehicles now getting vehicles to look
right in games is very difficult we saw
with Mafia 3 it was a little bit weird
the way that Vehicles behave seemed a
little bit disjointed but looking at the
gameplay video for mind’s ey it does
look like they’ve taken some of the
character istics from GTA 4 and 5 a
combination of the two and made this a
somewhat more cohesive Driving
Experience of course we haven’t
controlled any characters yet and we’re
talking ahead of the game coming out so
we don’t really know but what I’ve seen
so far including the variation of
vehicles is impressive next let’s talk
about the graphics so this is one of the
things that absolutely stood out to me
above anything else this game does look
amazing visually you can see the
textures in the skin you can see eyes
there is an argument to be made that may
maybe it’s a little bit plasticky but
we’re are now in this weird spot of
video game design where making skin look
perfect is very difficult you go too
high resolution it’s jarring too low
resolution and it looks like Tetris but
the game does look visually pleasing now
this brings me on to the lighting now
the lighting is incredible in this game
if you look at the way that light
interacts with objects the sky the
sunsets everything in this game just
looks incredible and this sort of
attention to detail helps build a more
convincing world and talking about
lighting this kind of leads into
explosions as well explosions in games
are really hard to get right sometimes
they look too fake or sometimes they
look like they’re trying to be too
realistic and kind of fall a little bit
flat in this I feel like we’re getting
the perfect balance of an explosion
looking realistic but still actually
looking like it’s a game like they’ve
managed to do explosions in an art style
that’s cool and the next good point I
want to get to is that it’s not an open
world and yes you heard that right I
said it’s a good point now games like
Detroit become human aren’t open world
games games like The Last of Us for
example aren’t open world games but the
story carries the game so much that it
doesn’t bother you so to give you some
more context on how this whole non-open
world thing works speaking to Edge
magazine assistant game director Adam
Whiting confirms that it’s a linear
action game it’s kind of like a fake
open world the center of the map is the
main playable area which includes Red
Rock itself which is the main city and
it’s been packed with ambient characters
is going about their lives AR director
Sebastian liil also confirms that you
can see people at work too whether it’s
a barista at a coffee shop or someone
working for one of the different
delivery firms in the game he says we’ve
really tried to build on the depth of
the world and branding and corporations
are a key to the way that we’ve done it
you’re being compelled to go from
mission to Mission to Mission we really
want it to feel like you’re reading
chapters of a book or I suppose the best
contemporary example is binging your
favorite Netflix show going from episode
to episode now this is not a bad thing
of at all this is actually for me the
way I prefer games to be don’t get me
wrong open worlds are brilliant and if
you can have a nice balance of a really
compelling story and an open world it
works brilliantly which is why Grand
Theft Auto works so well but with mind’s
ey if they are going to put the focus on
the story and it feels like we’re going
through chapters of a story the same way
that we do in games like Red Dead
Redemption or even Detroit become human
or even examples like heavy rain not
sure if you guys know that game but if
you haven’t played it you’re missing out
this this whole idea of being
emotionally involved with the story
where the story and the feeling and the
connection you get to that story is what
makes the game great is far more
rewarding than just having an open world
now of course cuz there’s vehicles in
the game there’s going to be sections
where it’s a more open closed off world
but we can actually drive around and do
things in of course but the biggest
factor of whether this works or not is
of course for us to find out when the
game is released with games that aren’t
open world like this they can focus on
the story design the Mission design they
can focus on cramming as much as
possible into the area we have access to
for each Mission this makes everything
far more convincing and sells the story
better now once again this is just my
personal opinion but if a game was going
to be a story-driven game that’s where
the focus needs to be and I know I’ve
mentioned it before but I feel like this
is where Mafia 3 kind of fell flat it
was an open world game but the rest of
the world was just a set piece the map
felt big and empty and like it didn’t
really serve an actual purpose for the
game but that’s because they were trying
to spread their workload across such a
big space that they could never fill
with a really compelling story now I
have seen some people raise concerns
online about what the story is going to
be like whether not having an open world
is a problem or not and I’ve got to add
here this game is been headed up by
Leslie Benes this is the man that bought
us GTA 5 I personally take the belief
that he more than a lot of people in the
games industry at the moment understand
what makes a good game so whilst waiting
for the game to come out which by the
way is only 2 months away I think we
should all give the game the benefit of
the doubt because I really struggle to
believe that this game in any way shape
or form won’t be a banger now that being
said of course when it comes out I’ll
play it I’ll do a full review video of
all my thoughts and feelings but for the
time being I’m excited now of course
Builder rocket boy are based in
Edinburgh and that’s obviously of course
where Rockstar are base and from what I
understand a lot of people came over
from Rockstar to work at Builder rocket
boy so with we’re getting some talented
people who understand what us as players
like playing designing a game for me at
the moment this is a very unique time in
gaming history we got Grand Theft Auto 6
coming out this year we’ve got Mafia the
old country we’ve got mind’s ey we’re
seeing the next generation of gaming
happening and I’m excited to see what
these different developers present this
with so as soon as the game comes out of
course I’ll be posting a playthrough and
giving you all my thoughts and feelings
on the game and we’ll see if it lives up
to the expectation and because it’s come
from Leslie Benz um well my expectations
are very high now I do want to add at
the end of the video I’m part of the
manai Creator program um if you are a
fellow YouTuber feel free to sign up
they have some criteria and you can get
different access and perks and stuff
like that but if you just want to
pre-order the game you can also
pre-order it and there’s some extra
stuff that you get um what I do like
actually is that they’ve got like season
passes but the first Year’s worth are
all included with a pre-order but I’m
going to be playing the game and
reviewing the game when it comes out
when we get more information I’m not
going to be covering it too heavily um
for me my focus on my channel is Grand
Theft Auto but between now and Grand
Theft Auto releasing of course I’m going
to be covering M’s eye thank you so much
for watching today’s video please make
